"In the fall of 2000, we planted several small trees in the yard around our new modular home. By the following spring one of the trees, a Newport Plum, had developed a distinct curve. For two years we tried staking the tree with the usual straps, wire and stakes to no avail. The wires would soon loosen and have to be tightened again and again. The tree showed no improvement--it actually developed another curve in the upper section.
